#Invertefest
Because I’m super good at social media posting, I’m going to put the ridiculous video I made today on Instagram. But I thought I’d share it with y’all also because I did submit this piece for the final #invertefest art book.

Starting with the dark green. Honestly, the shiny parts feel a bit intimidating. I'll have to face them soon!

Going for a green. This color felt surprisingly challenging to choose but I think I made the right pick. We'll see if my hunch is correct!

Do you call them ladybugs or ladybirds?

I designed this as one of the tops for garden tables in my game-in-progress - but I'm quite happy with it just as a pretty piece of art of these lovely voracious little predators. 😁

#InverteFest announcement: The December art book will be our 8th and last edition. We've been doing this since 2024 but my real life responsibilities have changed.

We might revive the idea in the future in one form or another, but no promises. If you want in, this is your last chance.
We present: The Art of #InverteFest - August 2026 Edition
A digital art book showcasing the work of 100 artists, in celebration of overlooked invertebrate fauna.

Thank you to the artists who contributed to our book!

I was breaking through thick brush to get to the creek and I almost stepped on this huge ant mound. Fortunately I saw it in time and didn’t disturb their home. 🐜

The western thatching ant (Formica obscuripes), a native species that actively tends aphids & membracids in their colonies to harvest honeydew. The ants stroke the rear ends of the homopteran insects with their antennae stimulating a honeydew drop. Symbiotic; in turn they protect their herd. 🐜
