🏗️ An earthquake fix that costs a few hundred yen per square meter: scatter tiny sapphire spheres on the warehouse floor.

Loaded pallets slide instead of fighting the shaking. At shindo 6-lower, goods moved millimeters. No collapse.

The TAG has made a pivotal decision to allow IRC prescriptive gravity design for three-story multiplexes, but with crucial engineering requirements in high-seismic D2 zones!

TAG accepts structural approach: allow IRC prescriptive gravity design but require engineering in D2 seismic zones
After reviewing lateral-force calculations and IRC prescriptive limits, the TAG recommended keeping IRC gravity provisions for three‑story multiplexes and allowing prescriptive lateral design in most zones while requiring registered design professionals for Seismic D2 zones or where prescriptive methods are not permitted.

Common nails in dry, old framing often split members. Split members don’t hold loads.

Structural screws cost more but behave better in real wood and real quakes.

Open ground floors look harmless. 🏢 But 90% of engineers miss the real mechanism:

it’s not missing columns, it’s lateral stiffness discontinuity. Plastic hinges form where drift concentrates first. Bad geometry amplifies forces. Good load paths dissipate them.
