I am still in shock at the image of the falling building in Bangkok, it seems way to far. Any help from the earthquake engineering folks? Is it because of the soft story? The fact was in was under construction ? Local site effects? #earthquakeengineering

Olympia Margeti (Uni. Patras) presented our study on integrated seismic & energy retrofits for RC buildings using TRM-insulation.

Key insight: Envelope systems drive energy gains, but structural fixes must fit specific building vulnerabilities! 🏗️⚡

In the early hours of today, September 18, a Mw 5.1 earthquake occurred. Residents near the epicenter reported moderately strong shaking. This is due to the soft soils where the epicenter was, northeast of the Apennines. ⚒
