Except the millions of cars trucks and buses on the world's roads kill over 1m and maim over 20m every year. The early data on cars with the most advanced self driving features show accident and injury rates at only 20% of cars without those features. That will tend to zero #SelfDrivingVehicles

Recently spent some time in Palo Alto, CA, and saw these Waymo cars everywhere.

It took awhile for me to realize they are on the road everywhere *with no driver*.

It's the freakiest thing to see.

Hmmm.... what a pesky question to ask about #SelfdrivingVehicles #AutonomousVehicles #AVs. When some auto manufacturers can't get even the basics like brakes right, why should we trust them to control the entire car?
Automatic emergency braking can save lives, and at least one vehicle already meets new safety standards for this technology. So why are manufacturers saying AEB is impossible to fine-tune while they attempt to put "autonomous vehicles" on our roads? www.autosafety.org/podcast/auto...

I was aware that maintaining a 🚘constant speed in traffic is effective, but there are really some interesting adaptive strategies.

Maybe #selfdrivingvehicles will be programmed with these and help out.
