Happy Birthday…to Earthquake Early Warning in the Pacific Northwest! ShakeAlert launched in WA on May 4, 2021, and since then we’ve installed hundreds of new seismic stations and successfully activated EEW for a M4.5 earthquake.

ShakeAlert is back up, thank goodness.
BTW ShakeAlert is still "offline for emergency maintenance" after unprecedented firings at USGS. Pray (maybe kneel under your desk) there's no Big One right now.

This was the first time I’d ever received a warning before an earthquake hit. I’m real far away and barely felt the earthquake, but it’s awesome to see this type of warning system work.
