Former journalist turned substacker praises production value and shareability of authoritarian propaganda.
That was a very effective speech.

You can hate it or him.

But that speech was aimed squarely at issues where the public is with Trump -- and filled with made-for-sharing moments.

A master image-maker at work (and you can hate him and acknowledge that's true!)

We'll be doing a panel at MagicCon Atlanta!

It's called Why Writing About Magic Is Important and we're going to do the whole thing in short, digestible, vertical videos for MAXIMUM SHAREABILITY

this is why I kind of feel like news companies should not have real time metrics on engagement with specific articles.

it’s bad for society in the long run if media optimizes their coverage for shareability

a huge part of how twitter beat it was just by massively changing its ranking to prioritize shareability instead of conversation, i suspect this is the natural optima given a platform that has quote tweets and is otherwise optimized for dialogue

it is frustrating to see leftist ideology sort of co-opted, diluted and packaged in the same way right wing grifters go for maximum outrage and shareability

Wavedash gives games the thing everything else on the web already has. Instant shareability.

the rage opinions for maximum shareability!! it must end!!!

I’m ready for it. Let’s get the videos, workable gifs, and news shareability and our Jazz community on here already
So is Bluesky ever going to fully open? The audience for sports coverage is still out there and it would be fantastic if we didn't have to maneuver around another goddamn algorithm or the fickle whims of a big wealthy baby to share our work.

I have agoraphobia and I’m not embarrassed to admit that

I’m also a huge comedy nerd & I SHOULD be embarrassed but no

I’m embarrassed to admit that this & the shelf life/shareability of comedy means I’m the one propping up all those YouTube reaction videos. I’m so sorry.

Punish me accordingly

I like it on Bluesky.
The lack of advertising is great. The tools for shaping your own experience through feed management, moderation and the shareability of packs and lists make it far more social than its rivals - and I will happily support it by subscribing when the option becomes available.

New op-ed from me today, looking at the way that queer and trans activists share information on Instagram and some of the problems that can arise.

When you sacrifice nuance in favour of shareability, could that spread unnecessary panic and even misinformation?

Consistently doing alt text has so many upsides (accessibility, shareability, searchability, muteability) and the downside is that it usually takes between 5-60 seconds. So, basically no real downside.

Grace is right but it also lays bare how stupid this whole thing is. we've spent 20 years effectively turning ALL media into social media, entwining content with user comments and shareability, to the point that they can't be separated so neatly
June 15, 2026 at 6:59 PM
Just a consideration:

More weapon types = more stuff to pull = less shareability

We really don't need more weapon types only for Kuro being creative with how the weapon looks like. They can make a sword character by using a frying pan only. There's no limit.

1. Users like goofy stuff (shareability + relatability)
2. Sketches tend to be more readable (one or two colors) + are more “fluid”

At least that’s what I assume, lol.
