Have you ever taken a walk in Heery’s Woods?

On November 22, 1850, John Heery showed up in Dubuque to file a claim on a stretch of woods along the Shellrock River in Butler County. Today’s Heery Woods State Park, the site stands as a great example of Iowa’s land change over time.

I drove out to Hood River from Portland yesterday morning and my Sprinter (work van) gave me a first: "Crosswind Assist". Happend just west of HR near Norton Rd. That was interesting.

Then I noticed the rather large wind driven waves on the Columbia @ Shellrock Mt on the way back in the afternoon.

Mt. Hood visible behind the shoulder of Shellrock Mountain, as seen from the Surveyor's Ridge Trail in September. The mountain was looking pretty naked at that point, but there's a lot more snow up there now! Looking forward to some snowshoeing adventures this winter. ❄
