Details of my process in ALT.
Nik SilverEFX Pro does so much, so easily and with full control over the image. Started with the Full Dynamic (Harsh) setting, applied a green filter (using the slider to get the exact shading I wanted), amped the Structure slider to +21. Then just downsized to 1000 pixels wide, applied a bit of unsharp masking, and added the white border. Oh, and everything done in Affinity Photo, not the Adobe platform that demands a monthly ransom.

I got #busy and processed the behoosits out of this image by applying all sorts of filters and enhancements to create the #monochrome version. Ceja Pelon mesa, NW New Mexico. Hopefully I didn't overdo it.

Straightforward color rendering showing a sandstone knob at the end of a promontory, overlooking a dry streambed with scattered trees and a field beyond. The sky shows wispy clouds. A tenacious pine tree grows from the far side of the rocky knob. Canon 6D, f/8, 28mm Monochrome version of the same image, processed in Nik SilverEFX using full dynamic setting, applying a green(ish) filter and adding light sepia toning.

Started with the Antique Plate setting in Nik SilverEFX. The slight tilt bothered me, so I straightened the image and cropped. Added a yellow filter that enhanced the marquee somewhat. Use vignetting to increase the "island of light" effect. Added film grain. Cloned out the "WALK" sign. Stuck on a plain white border. Not bad for an amateur hack (he though to himself).

Steven, thanks! This image from 2010 was taken with a Canon 5D II at 45mm (Tamron 28-75 zoom) - f/8, 1/200 sec., ISO 125, with a two-step underexposure. In post I used Affinity Pro and Nik SilverEfx to get the detail just the way I wanted.

That's valid. I'll admit to not being at that level of usage in my editing regimen, and make considerable use of plugins (Nik Silverefx, for instance) to achieve the desired results.
