the number of times I've had to run fucking
$ del /s /q %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
today to fix Windows Updates is fucking insane. Literally 4-5 times per machines.
To get Windows 11 Installation Asst to upgrade to 25H2.
Because Windows Update won't, despite these PCs exceeding min spec.

today to fix Windows Updates is fucking insane. Literally 4-5 times per machines.
To get Windows 11 Installation Asst to upgrade to 25H2.

Still trying to fix this Windows Update fiasco and can't seem to make any headway. I can't fix it until I can clear the old update in SoftwareDistribution and it won't let me delete any of the files in the folder, even when I stop Windows Updates and go into the Power Shell.

run cmd as administrator and:
net stop wuauserv
c:
cd %Windir%\SoftwareDistribution
del /f /s /q Download
then reboot and try again.

Usually with stupid update shit I run “net stop wuauserv” to stop windows update, then pop into C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, wipe it out, reboot, rescan for updates and that usually does the trick

If you have another fixed drive on that machine you can set Windows to use it for virtual memory instead of C:. Also clear out your Windows Update folder (C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\) in case there's leftover old crap in there. May need to temporarily stop Windows Update service to do this.
