Ultimately: this is Elon using a new huge valuation to bail himself out. Twitter will generate less than $3bn of ad revenue this year and probably less than $2bn of EBITDA. There’s no chance xAI has that much revenue. But we’re supposed to believe the whole pile is worth a Bank of America ($133bn).

my answer to this is a deep desire to believe his extremely attractive narratives, which healed deep contradictions (Tesla/SolarCity: capitalism can drive environmental sustainability) and restored a sense of modernist aspiration and national greatness (SpaceX: back to space)
why do you think so many gave elon musk’s personal & business conduct adulation for so long? many of us lowly but serious “legacy media,” trade reporters & bloggers covered it bluntly. employees & exes spoke out. shortsellers published theses. why was it all a big shrug or salute for him- thoughts?

Telsa would have to sell 400 million cars to return profits to equity holders, they currently produce 2 million/year. His behavior must be understood in these terms, there is no public company he can spin up to wallpaper over the equity black hole (as he did when Tesla bought insolvent SolarCity)

probably relevant that in 2016 SpaceX took a bunch of money from up front government contracts and then jammed it into unsecured Solar City debt that the market had rejected, which probably would have landed Musk in prison had Tesla not bailed out SolarCity
