Taking our Sun shot today during a break in the clouds at midday, we enjoyed a temperature of 52°F, powder-blue skies, brisk winds. Seeing was surprisingly good.

A period of partly-cloudy sky allowed a Sun shot near noon today. The temperature was 31℉, light ground winds, and seeing was generally good -- between clouds!

Sun has broken out in spots! A clear, hot day (83°F) produced very good seeing when we captured our white light image this afternoon. We expect cloudy, even stormy, skies over the next few days.

With the days becoming increasingly hot, our shift to early morning Sun shots was a wise move! Clear skies and quiet winds made for very good seeing as we swapped out cameras from the Canon EOS 6D Mk. 2 to the EOS 5D Mk. 4. #sun #sunspots #solarobserving #astronomy

Wowser. There’s currently a huge prominence on the northeastern limb of the Sun, perhaps the harbinger of something big coming our way. Michael Jaeger caught a fine animation of this storm in action yesterday: spaceweathergallery2.com/indiv_upload...

Using the Askar 103 APO scope and Spectrum Telescope filter, we are likely saying goodbye to active region 4079 and its large sunspot. A few other spots dot Sun's face but hold a bit less interest. May try again tomorrow to catch 4079 on the western limb.

Very good seeing conditions this morning with temperatures warming into the +30℉ range, and mostly clear skies.

Sun has been actively flaring, according to reports, charging Earth's upper atmosphere. The less-powerful flares have not caused major spaceweather.

Little happening on Sol *except* for unassuming active region 4087. Looking like nothin' much, AR4087 has been blasting off regular CMEs all missing Earth... so far. In the next couple of days our planet will be within 4087's strike zone so be ready for action!
