#Sourceforge
#selfhosting your own sourceforge is such a great move. Superfast and only breaks when I do something stupid.

The closer you get to the hardware in programming, the less useful LLMs become.
In other words: they make you repeat exactly the same trial-and-error process they’ve read about on SourceForge or Reddit.
They don’t jump straight to the final solution.

🎨 Free Software Friday: XPaint brings classic X Window System graphics editing to Unix-like machines. First released in 1993, this lightweight, open-source raster editor is still available today—a great piece of living Unix software history! #VintageComputer

[2/3] I was lucky as the upgrade was 99.99% done when that happened. At that moment, the OS was a mish-mash of the old and new versions. A reboot thankfully made the leap to the new version. SourceForge shortly came back online and I was able to resolve the inconsistencies from the terminal.

[1/3] The upgrade was mostly hassle-free and took less than an hour, mostly thanks to the fact that my laptop is from a manufacturer who is Ubuntu certified (I think). I did get a few scares at the end as SourceForge was offline when the updater needed to get some font files from it.

They may be no longer the cool kid on the block, but Sourceforge at least uses the #fediverse for their status page instead of Shitter.

This is a guest post by Matt Denwood. After a longer-than-anticipated delay, the macOS installer for JAGS 5.0.0 is now available via SourceForge. There are some big changes for how the official binaries of JAGS 5.x are installed on macOS, which is the topic covered by this news post. Multi-threading and BLAS linkage JAGS now has multi-threading support to allow parallel execution of independent chains, which uses Apple’s Grand Central Dispatch for the macOS binaries.

The order I would submit in:

Week 1 — confirm your own site is indexed
Week 1 — G2, Product Hunt, SourceForge
Week 2 — category-specific indexes
Week 3 — one launch platform, once
Week 4 — the rest of the 152 free dofollow

Most people do week four first.

Ten directories that are free, dofollow, and have an actual audience.

SourceForge 2.6M · G2 790K · Hacker News 631K · Product Hunt 306K · Wellfound 263K · AlternativeTo 103K · DevPost 98K · Alternative.me 98K · Indie Hackers 80K · EU Startups 13K

The traffic column is the one people skip.

One free afternoon, in this order:

Product Hunt · G2 · SourceForge · Wellfound · Indie Hackers · AlternativeTo · SaasHub · TrustRadius

All free, all dofollow, about three hours.

Ordered by audience, not by DR. A listing on a page with visitors does two jobs.

I use Keepass (which is open source and there are several forks, including one which is using Copilot in some limited capacity), but their code appears to be only on Sourceforge and not Github, so I can't tell if they used, say, Claude, by seeing commits from blocked user as I would on Github.

12 directories that are free, dofollow, and DR 80+.

SourceForge 93 · G2 91 · Hacker News 91 · Product Hunt 91 · DevPost 88 · FinancesOnline 87 · Software Advice 87 · Wellfound 87 · TrustRadius 84 · Fazier 82 · Indie Hackers 81 · SaasHub 80

One afternoon. No cost.

Just has an interesting thought. All coding AI assistants are trained on places GitHub, GitLab and SourceForge. 90% of the code there is under the GPL or MIT licence. Does this mean Stuff coded with for example Claude Code should really be GPL or MIT licenced?

📋 New backlink drive: ClaimNorth is NOT listed on SaaSworthy, SourceForge, or SoftwareSuggest — 3 high-DA directories with 0 ClaimNorth presence. Submission packets ready for 2 of 3 (SourceForge needs SMS verify). T-12 days to ITC Vegas. claimnorth.com

When I open the command line and type "help", I should get:

1. A link to linuxcommand.org/tlcl.php, except not that because that links to some SourceForge thing the distro should just host a copy of the PDF.

2. Link to the distro support forums/IRC/whatever.

3. An LLM agent/chatbot.

How the f*ck is possible that in 2026 we still issues with hg19/hg38?

If you are using cellsnp-lite don’t rely on their SNP lists on sourceforge: hg38 file apparently is a chimera of hg19 and hg38 SNPs

This is my first post! I'm just dropping the new piece of software I authored on SourceForge. It's a super simple ai interface for Ollama.
