In the colder/wetter months, I spend lots of time photographing springtails. These two aquatic species (Sminthurides aquaticus) were grazing on algae by our garden pond. They're small (less than 2mm long) and easily overlooked! #macro #photography #springtails #collembola #mesofauna

Took a pillbug pic. See the tiny springtails below the pillbug, just to the right? (Springtails are hexapods - havers of six legs - but are not insects.) Above them is an even tinier white speck that might be a mite (or maybe a baby springtail, didn't get a good enough look to say). 🐙🌿 #inverts
A macro photo of a dark brownish pillbug clambering through decaying bits of sticks and leaves. Its antennae are out. Below it and to the right are two extremely tiny springtails - if the pillbug were the size of an elephant, the springtails would be the size of a kitten. Only one of the springtails is in focus; it is grayish, with purple-pink antennae and a body covered in short bristly hairs. Above it is a white little speck, even smaller than the springtails, which could be a mite, or maybe a baby springtail.
