Aravind Srinivas (Perplexity) tells Lex all the ways in which I was right against the prevalent ideas of the time: DL, ConvNets, energy-based models, SSL, the limitation of RL, and now the limitations of auto-regressive generative models including LLMs.
Thanks Aravind!

Today is “Liberation Day” at OpenAI as multiple senior executives announce they are leaving the company.

• Bill Peebles, Head of Sora
• Kevin Weil, VP of OpenAI for Science
• Srinivas Narayanan, CTO of B2B Applications

It’s notable that they aren’t waiting for the IPO.

my fav guy of this type is Srinivas Ramanujan, who got invited to Trinity at the demand of GH Hardy because he sent him the greatest cold email of all time and had to be coached on how to retrofit his solutions to proofs because "my family goddess appeared in a vision and solved it" wouldnt cut it

In an All-In interview, Aravind Srinivas said it was fine that people would lose their jobs because people don’t like them anyway. Instead, they could just make their own AI-powered mini-business.

It’s a narrative not unlike what we saw after the financial crisis.

@shifaant.bsky.social @srinivas-lab.bsky.social peaking into the chick heart - love it!!
This week's scientific video, created by Dr Shifaan Thowfeequ from the Shankar Srinivas lab, is titled “Chasing the wave – in search of the origins of the first heartbeat.” The video captures the mechanical and chemical dynamics of an embryonic chick heart as it first forms and starts to beat.

“The model alone is no longer the product. It is the harness. The orchestration system that puts the model inside a very capable harness and pairs the model with a lot of tools”
- Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity

I agree with this 100%. Claude Code was the massive unlock not Opus by itself.

Wine industry person here in Napa. Wine sales are declining even across wealthier brands because normal people cannot afford to splurge on wine. The wine industry is suffering because of idiots like Aravind Srinivas and every wealthy executive. Go to hell. We hate you.
He is also promising people a "glorious future" where there will be "one person, one-billion" companies instead, which people will run while "sipping wine in Napa valley."
And that the job displacements are just the prices other people must pay for his/other entrepreneurship/profits.
Perplexity’s CEO is just the latest tech leader to tell the public their jobs will be sacrificed on the altar of the glorious AI future.

It’s a compelling narrative, but it distracts us from the real impact of AI: not to take the human out of the loop, but to take away their power and cut their pay

While Sam Altman is the scammiest and Dario Amodei is the least likable/human acting CEO I do think that Srinivas is probably the slimiest of the bunch. When people at a newspaper went on strike he offered his tools to undermine labor. He's just a despicable piece of shit.
