#SuperGene
Supergenes are large genomic regions hosting multiple linked genes which define complex traits. This #BiologyLetters study reports evidence for a novel supergene in ants, which underpins variation in queen morphology (winged and wingless queens) doi.org/10.1098/rsbl... | #Ecology #Evolution

Is Super Gene worth reading? Yes for the first God's Sanctuary arc: eat monsters, gain geno points, evolve. Readers say it repeats after that.

Watching $FCX: Freeport-McMoRan runs porphyry + supergene ore, Grasberg leach raises mill recovery and volumes. Low strip, good sulphide grades. I call 30% rerate. https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/fcx-q3-earnings-call-highlights-132000350.html

I've watched $FCX and Freeport-McMoRan: 830M lb copper proves porphyry orebody + supergene zones; Grasberg recovery and mill throughput lift output. Ops efficency beats hype. I call 30% rerate. https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/commodities/articles/copper-prices-could-key-test-031352866.html

Super interesting paper exploring the molecular basis of left-right asymmetry in of enantiostyly in butterfly lilies! The style bend and rotate before flowering to avoid the anther (and prevent self-pollination). Controlled by a hemizygous locus supergene! 🤩 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

As of 2024 the Lesser Redpoll is no longer its own species. Genome work lumped it with Common and Arctic Redpoll into one bird. A single supergene turns out to drive all those plumage differences.

A supergene and genomic mosaicism are associated with phenotypic evolution in Galápagos tree finches - Nature Communications
Adaptive radiations produce striking phenotypic diversity over remarkably short evolutionary timescales. This study uses genomic analyses of Darwin’s tree finches to reveal a cryptic lineage, in which...

Amazing!! Can’t wait to read, I’ve been terribly curious to learn more about the sex ratio supergene :)
This past summer, work from my dissertation was published in MBE ! We found that the sex ratio supergene in Formica likely has two origins, one Nearctic and one Palearctic. This likely happened due to recombination between two standing haplotypes that underlie colony queen number! 🐜🐜
@g-lagunasrobles.bsky.social et al. used WGS in Formica ants to study supergene diversification and gain of function, finding evidence for two origins of the MD haplotype.

Awesome! I think these TE islands may also be important to supergene (large structural variant) mediated gene regulatory evolution in Solenopsis invicta - we found lots of upregulated genes and elements in the Chr3 island: academic.oup.com/view-large/f...
