Sweetlips time! These are Ribboned Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus polytaenia, most numerous, thin yellow/black stripes), Oblique-banded Sweetlips (P. lineatus, with the bold black lines/spots) and Goldlined Sweetlips (P. chrysotaenia, with no black on them at all).

A mixed group of fishes, hanging out in relatively deep water (which is why it all looks a bit blue). They are mostly silvery with yellow fins and either yellow or black stripes (or both). They all have notably thick lips and large mouths. There are patches of reef and sand visible behind them. This, apparently, is a fish called the Harlequin sweetlips, one of a number of kinds of sweetlips fishes.

I would love to know exactly how the friends of whoever named them sweetlips reacted. Concern? Laughter? “It’s time to stop staring at fish”?
A yellowish fish with a lot of black spots in a leopard kind of pattern. It has large gray liplike protrusions near its mouth.
