From the beginning, ETH and SETH were "straw man" hypotheses, not conjectures. They were set up for two reasons (1) as challenges to anyone conjecturing P=NP: Why haven't you refuted this yet? and (2)...

Researchers subjectively believe in their directions before progressing through them. #science #TCSsky
Quote: "Many people believed that there’s no better way. Duan wasn’t one of them. He’d long dreamed of building a shortest-paths algorithm that could break through the sorting barrier."

I don't know how significant Geometry, Topology, or Algebra, will be on machine learning. Nonetheless, It's great to see a paper surveying and introducing such emerging fields. #AI #MathSky #TCSsky

Wow. Had not realized that Columbia’s settlement with Trump admin included a commitment to decrease international student enrollment. In what way does this help “combat antisemitism,” which is supposedly the administration’s objective?

It's common among theorists to say, someone should follow her passion and what she finds curious. I disagree. A theorist is a truth-seeker who figures the right question at the right time, to progress the intellect. It is possible for wrong acts to occasionally yield good results. #MathSky #TCSsky

While replying to Scott's blog, I recalled prof. Oded's beautiful essay: www.wisdom.weizmann.ac.il/~oded/on-val... I think it is relevant to TCS research nowadays. Only because engineers are successful with #LLM, that doesn't justify theorists to compete with them. #TCSsky
