Unfortunately, the US doesn't deserve to have allies anymore, and I say this as a US citizen. After reelecting trump, the American people have proven that they are no longer trustworthy.

I think OpenAI is largely threatening the norms concerned over priority and flag-planting, which I largely think are bad norms here! I do not think such things help mathematics to remain trustworthy, ethical, or in the common interest at all. But they're very comfortable for career academics.

I think that's overly generous. They say they have norms inspired by 'a particular vision of progress informed by history', and that those norms are essential to guarantee that mathematics remains trustworthy, ethical, and in the public interest. That's very much a conservative stance.

Trump threatened & did to Ukraine in March 2025. EU stepped in & filled the gaps. No doubt Ukraine believes intelligence provide by the Putin puppet is not trustworthy.

I am loyal, helpful, trustworthy, and mostly (sort of... if I like you) obedient. (As @tkingfisher.com has said many times, I am basically a paladin.)
It is mentally good for me to have a dog that isn't any of these things.

Unless you've literally known them for years and they've SHOWN that they're trustworthy; keep your eyes on them at all times. Leave their presence at the tiniest of odd or off-putting behaviour. Never leave anything sensitive alone with them: drinks, food, phone, wallet, keys, etc.

The Internet security people I follow mostly think it’s untrustworthy, it’s founder is russian and rather sketchy, the server is closed source, depends on homegrown, unproven security algorithms…
It definitely fills a niche, and the uncensored one to many aspects is useful, but trustworthy it isn’t.
