This kind of horrible situation of exploitation is what the TVPA is meant to make prosecutable, I admire Scarlett so much for going through with this.
For those who don’t want to read this: you are incredibly valid, and frankly, you don’t need to read it unless you feel it absolutely necessary. The TL;DR is that Scarlett is suing both Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer under the Trafficking Victim Protection Act (among other things).

Again, this is not me agreeing with the federal sex trafficking law (TVPA/TVPRA), this is me saying that what feds say is reason enough to charge someone under that law can absolutely change depending on who that person is

• Private companies profiting ✓
• Forced labor for near-zero wages ✓
• Sexual exploitation occurring in custody ✓
That is a serious, legally grounded argument that some of what occurs in these facilities meets the TVPA definition of trafficking.
