hilldiv3: Integral Analysis of Diversity Based on Hill Numbers
Measures and compares the diversity of biological communities (e.g. tables of operational taxonomic units (OTUs), amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) or metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs)) based on Hill numbers, in a unified framework for neutral, phylogenetic and functional diversity measurement, diversity partitioning, (dis)similarity measurement, diversity profiles, evenness and redundancy. The statistical framework encompasses richness, Shannon and Simpson diversity, Faith's phylogenetic diversity (PD), Rao's quadratic entropy and Sorensen- and UniFrac-type dissimilarities, all grounded in a single Hill-number framework. Methods are described in Jost (2007) <doi:10.1890/06-1736.1>, Chao et al. There are multiple optional constrained ontologies that improve performance, including a recommended bibliography file with reference data for the pdfs and DwC-A files with taxonomic data.

I mean, if we're treating the matter seriously then no, thats a post-hoc attempt at cleaning up definitions that flies in the face of what myth and folklore about dragons actually exists -Dragon is a Vibe, not a taxonomic classification, and any attempt to make it the latter is doomed to fail

Taxonomic revisions bring scattered knowledge together, clarify species identities & reveal overlooked diversity. Reliable identification is essential for mapping distributions, studying ecology and monitoring biodiversity.

Ok, this one (from July 2026) isn't a republished article from the archives but a new one, a book review. Specifically it's on taxonomic vandalism, a subject closely connected to squamate studies and #herpetology... tetzoo.com/blog/2026/7/... #books #reptiles #bookreview

Sauropod resilience in the southeastern Neuquén Basin at the end-Cretaceous: new titanosaurian evidence from the Allen Formation (late Maastrichtian) of Patagonia, Argentina
The Late Cretaceous sauropod fauna of Patagonia shows a high taxonomic diversity and a widespread distribution, including over a third of all known Gondwanan sauropod taxa. However, the Maastrichti...

Absolutely. it's giving me ideas for characters, more ocs for me to throw out there an theoretical the #Runtvn Someone who keeps something like taxonomic notes from countless studies, dissections/observatios over the years. Already got someone in mind who deals with the dead, so why not.

kind of funny seeing news outlets try to explain avian taxonomic splitting. ornithologists do this constantly you just didn’t care about the mongolian gull 😒

Frankly being able to determine species, let alone genus is not a easy regarding paleontology when skeletal remains are the most common material we can study. So bless the paleonerds doing the work to figure out any similarities or distinctions to do any taxonomic designation of any kind.

Taxonomic research reflects not only how many species there are, but also what policy pays attention to. That creates a risk: poorly studied taxa can remain invisible to policy, and therefore remain poorly studied.

With binomial species labels (Genus species) or NCBI taxon IDs, BTV can automatically display colored ribbons corresponding to Linnaean taxonomic ranks, so you can see where major groups fall and get an idea of the topology at a glance.
