Does the journal Present Tense still exist? Their last issue appears to be from 2022?

Hey, #teamrhetoric, theres an active vote of no confidence vote against NCTE's utter failure of leadership and its blatant lies on shutting down C's. Please sign it.

Just wrapped a delightfully visceral podcast interview with Jeremy Tirrell & @katemadd.bsky.social, the authors of Disgustatory! A Gothic Rhetoric of Consumption. Excited to get this ep edited and out later this fall. A book worth reading. #teamrhetoric

I wrote a review of Sarah Ann Singer's The Patient Empowerment Paradox: Lyme Disease Rhetoric and Contested Health Literacies -- I really liked this book and I think it's going to be useful for a lot of folks' work in #teamrhetoric

9. n the online world of “leftist” politics, that's “cringe,” said Alan Elrod in Liberal Currents. “Cringe politics are not just rejected for being uncool but for being too girly, too motherly.”

Any recs for essays on failure to assign in first-year writing? One I am definitely assigning is Stacey Waite’s “Courting Failure” from Teaching Queer. Any other recs? #teamrhetoric

Unfortunately, WRITING EMERGENCIES is feeling particularly relevant these days. As Holly Hassel and Kate Pantelides reminds us in this collection, college composition is so much more than teaching students how to write. Writing 👏 centers 👏 are 👏 essential #teamrhetoric #writingstudies #highered

Like many of you, we are saddened by the news that NCTE has de-chartered #CCCC. USUP stands in solidarity with comp/rhet scholars seeking to maintain a vibrant research community and looks forward to continuing to support #writingstudies & #teamrhetoric through our publications.

Literacy crisis discourse usually centers around critique of: grammar, clarity, and/or critical thinking. Now, literacy crises are often about more than this, but in terms of what people claim it’s about, I think these three things cover it. AI has narrowed these concerns (esp 1st 2) #teamrhetoric

Why did NCTE and CCCC officers have to sign NDAs? Do we have trade secrets about semicolons? I don’t understand. What a rotten organization NCTE is…we are educators and not defense contractors or Coca-Cola. Ridiculous. No NDAs for our new org #teamrhetoric

Should we be concerned?
“Jenna Anderson, attending a DC panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, has revealed the winner. Rhetoric is the new villain, with their comic and in-game designs unveiled at the panel.”

I guess Plato warned us.

Anyone from #TeamRhetoric wanna talk about @ncte.org disbanding #CCCC, the most prestigious conference in our field, to make like quislings and bow to fascists? I'm going to talk about it either way, because they are violating students' 1A rights. If you want in, email me at weirdofriend@pm.me.
#teamrhetoric I have a podcast with an audience of about 10k listeners. Would you like to come on and tell them about what NCTE did? Those professors work at institutions. Those institutions are paid by tax dollars. The locals in those states can raise hell, and I can help with that.

Let me know if anyone is interested in downloading a decade of CCC and TETYC. Just for worst case scenario of losing them #teamrhetoric
We should probably start downloading all CCC articles. Anyone interested in splitting up this work? Like a few of us tackle a decade a piece?

If there’s no 2027 CCCC I’d be happy to watch recordings of 5-7 presentations and write feedback for each one. Especially for grad students. I usually go to like 7ish sessions (maybe more?) so would be similar kind of deal #teamrhetoric

For those of you not involved in #teamrhetoric, @ncte.org has been censoring and pressuring C's for years over our fullthroated advocacy of marginalized folks generally, and students in specific. The E Board of C's was told yesterday that the shuttering was about that advocacy.
