grappling with SBVGM. it's the only piece of software in existence that supports my texelec SAAYM for this purpose but it has zero features. no playlist support, and it doesn't play the samples in sega genesis/mega drive songs.

Oh, and I'm gonna need some kind of controller. Atari style joysticks suck. There's no user port to use the TexElec adapter for a SNES controller.

Swapped my home-made foam+foil keyboard pads with the TexElec ones. A lot better.
The TexElec pads are 4mm think (as opposed to mine which are 6mm) and have a slightly less firm foam.
The extra 2mm travel makes all the difference. Actually, it would be better if there was even more.

At this point, we're scanning the keyboard for any input corresponding to "fire", as well as the buttons of any "Stupid PET Tricks" joystick adapter or any Texelec SNES adapter, at once.
(While the keyboard controls are always active, this is used to figure out what jostick scheme to check.)
