What’s happening here is: Labour, the Tories and Reform are all fighting for control of the Thatcherite Reactionary Crackdowns bloc of the electorate - about 30% - because those are the voters you need, if you want to govern via reactionary Thatcherite crackdowns. The only tolerable governance.

Interviewer: Would you say that Duran Duran's early success was an embodiment of Thatcherite values?

Simon le Bon: No, no, no Tories, us.

Here we go again indeed. It took the Tories over a decade to burn their party to the ground trying to prop up the Thatcherite consensus, and Labour are going to do the same to themselves far more quickly than that.
Nesrine has a good line on starmer:
"Some of you may know him from the office: a careerist who will look you dead in the eye and tell you, the moment it becomes more convenient to take a different line, that isn’t what he said at all."

Reshuffle it how you like, Starmer’s ‘grownup’ Labour has the Tory whiff of spiteful incompetence | Nesrine Malik
Here we are again: constant rebooting, cruel rhetoric and crackdowns. And hurtling towards a Reform-shaped future, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

If you understand Labour, Reform and the Tories as competing factions in a political class fighting to secure the specific section of the electorate that broadly favours the Thatcherite Consensus in its harshest, ugliest forms, united against liberalism and socialism, then you will not go far wrong.

At long last, space is opening up in British politics for Thatcherism
November 27, 2025 at 7:19 AM
On the News Agents, Jon explains today shows Labour & Reform love unaffordable welfare spending, which opens up space for the Tories to “reinvent as a Thatcherite party”. ☠️

FFS. Starmer is the problem. He's not dim, deaf or badly advised. He wants his Labour to replace the old Tories. He's a Thatcherite
May 11, 2025 at 7:05 AM
They think Reform are a racist version of the Labour party, when in fact they're an even more racist and Thatcherite version of the Tories. It's FAFO time for them.

the modern labour party has done so much damage to the people of england and the world (esp to migrants, trans ppl, students, medical patients, medical providers and workers). they have effectively undone more of the post-wwii welfare state than thatcherite tories & will kill it all if allowed to
July 28, 2026 at 9:52 AM
Bonkers.

The biggest criticism of Starmer is he's already far too right wing, & a self-declared Thatcherite

Chasing Reform votes from his position as just about centre right, while already far right Tories tack much more to the extreme, moves the Overton Window even further from the mainstream.

you can’t name a single social policy that is progressive or a single economic policy that isn’t thatcherite

labour is an austerity pushing, bigotry loving, nightmare and i honestly think we’d be better off if the tories won. hell i still had civil rights under them. you ppl stole my civil rights.
October 26, 2025 at 10:18 PM
this tedious no-songs cunt never saw a Thatcherite he didn't love
June 27, 2025 at 6:27 PM
Is it me or does Wes Streeting look like one of those demented Thatcherite Young Tories of the 80s?
April 7, 2025 at 7:53 PM
TL:DR - Both the Tories and Labour burned their parties to the fucking ground trying to prop up the Thatcherite consensus, while the world’s most poisonous media outlets worked tirelessly to keep the public in a state of constant blood-puking fury. So now, we’re one crisis away from PM Nigel Farage.
September 4, 2025 at 5:26 PM
FWIW, I do know Robbie Gibb, having met him almost 30 years ago when he was working for the Tories & always quite liked him. But the claim by this self-identifying “Thatcherite” to be a completely impartial BBC arbiter is as ludicrous as me claiming I’m not partial towards Labour.

Reform put out press release late last night about reserving social housing for British born *FIRST*

It’s the sort of policy that plays well to the Restore, EDL dribblers too dumb to remember it’s Thatcherite Tories like Farage who cheered on the sell off *of* social housing.

WHAT SOCIAL HOUSING

in his bio: rule 1, never trust a tory.

dude you support keir starmer. he's more thatcherite than thatcher herself. like what are you talking about?

do these ppl just have no political literacy at all?

starmer is a tory. he's surrounded himself with other tories. they hijacked the labour party.
February 25, 2026 at 9:28 AM
Since my parents are Thatcherite Tories who have read the Telegraph for the last fifty years and I’m a gay man who was a teenager in the late 1980s I’m waaaaay ahead of you.
September 2, 2025 at 6:07 PM
But the entire purpose of Starmerism is to browbeat the electorate out of the delusion that these people can ever be got rid of. You hated the Tories and voted against them did you? Well surprise, the guiding Thatcherite consensus is immovable and we *will* be enforcing it regardless of who wins.
December 31, 2025 at 9:01 AM
The Tories' ideological cult of Thatcherism, combined with a strategic need to oppose New Labour from the Right, meant the Tories either didn't realise or outright ignored that Blair and Brown sought to pursue their aims within a broadly Thatcherite economic model.
October 12, 2024 at 4:29 PM
Yeah, I guess that's what you would argue when your guy is making speeches accusing the fucking Tories of being too liberal on immigration.

That said, Thatcherite economics, and bigotry are written all over his policies as well.
December 30, 2024 at 11:09 AM
I mean, Labour are governing like the Tories. The Tories are the Tories and Reform is led by an uber-Thatcherite. The only way I can see it happening via electoralism is if we end up with a hung parliament and the Polanski is left as kingmaker.
December 17, 2025 at 11:36 AM
sure except labour are a thatcherite party under starmer and have more in common with the tories and reform than they do with the greens.
February 1, 2026 at 11:07 AM
your bio says you hate tories.

starmer is a thatcherite.

your politics make no sense.
December 8, 2024 at 2:46 PM
the wets seem to have had a better read on him, poss because these days they’re trad Tories who think norms and institutions matter — not Thatcherite maoists.
