X-thread for the panel featuring @asherwolf.bsky.social, Jenny Miller, Felicity Button, Colleen Taylor. Hosted by Guardian reporter Chris Knaus who did so much to cover the issue for them.

Here is an excellent article in @crikey.com.au by @beneltham.bsky.social on the ongoing mutual obligations crisis, and the tribunal decision which is the basis of this analysis:

Everyone thinks they're the good guys! There are several people named by the Royal Commission as having done awful things who are still swanning around Canberra university boardrooms telling everyone how they were one of the good ones.

Miller talks about feeding stories to the tabloids. “Oh we’re the good guys”, she reassures Tudge.

Ohmigods. You are spinner in chief for an unlawful government program and you think you’re the good guys

Rule of law failed in Ministerial dictate, in parliament, the courts and in provided community legal representation, it failed in the APS, it failed in the polite organisations of civil society. Rule of law failed for decades before the moniker of ‘Robodebt’ was coined

One particular unlawful misapplication, of one particular provision in the legislation for mutual obligations, has led to payment cancellations at least 310,000 people.

Total number who received Robodebt notices: ~443,000.

Here's how many provisions there are in section 42.

Wow, some amazing people that bought this to light, and took on the Government

And this show highlights just how much damage was caused to the people affected 😡

The choice by #ThePeopleVsRobodebt to include such a large volume featuring Rachelle Miller bemoaning all the terrible things "that happened to me" is puzzling. She's sitting quite nicely on a $ubstantial payout and the only wounds she has to lick are outcomes of selfish, irresponsible choices.

If I could never hear from Rachelle Miller about robodebt again that would be bloody ideal #thepeoplevsrobodebt

It was only because of the social media campaign that the looping effect of pressure was built thru the voice of people telling their stories. Justice was never ensured. It should not be taken for granted and the work that it took should not be underestimated

As @christopherrudge.bsky.social continued to probe this report to DEWR, he found the AI had also hallucinated a judgement and fake quotes and references from Deanna Amato's Robodebt test case with Vic LegalAid!

I was reminded of the horrors of Morrison, Robert and Tudge watching #ThePeopleVsRobodebt. Such dreadful dreadful scumbags. Morrison was such a phony. Just a grifting lying carnival barker.

Rachelle Miller not exactly covering herself in glory in #ThePeopleVsRobodebt. Not a lot of heart.

But Brereton's buddy Kathryn Campbell was FULLY BRIEFED about the scheme's failures, did nothing to stop it, and staff say she lied.

Brereton's dud #NACC has not charged her with anything.

Heinous.

The other striking thing about Rick Morton's Mean Streak was the tolerance of really terrible bullying by Malisa Golightly and others in the public service. Hardly conducive to providing safe workplaces. Those poor staff. They should sue.
