It’s all about the Openers this week, and that Mansun track was a banger. I love Mansun, and a lot of their remixes were proper top-drawer stuff.

@DJDarren hard agree on that early Avril Lavigne stuff. Really good power pop stuff. I was surprised how much that track sounded like Linkin Park, actually.

Also, I absolutely loved that first Texas album, there’s some corking tunes on there. Nothing else they did really chimed with me.
Oh, and Sharleen Spiteri was 🔥 back then 😍

Tangent (hey, this is #theplaylist, it’s conceptual foundation is us going off on wild tangents): Spiteri was known for being a full of herself and something of a gobshite when the mood took her.

@DJDarren I’ve been musing on a theme for #theplaylist: unusual or improvised instruments. It could be anything from washboards to tea chests, Brian May’s homemade guitar to Imogen Heap’s whacky electronics.

Theme suggestion! Punctuation. You know, songs (or bands) with some form of punctuation. Inspired by the band that used to be called “Panic! At the Disco” and the correct use of commas, apostrophes and semicolons everywhere.

@DJDarren Hello Mr #theplaylist. First thank you for Monday's episode which was perfectly timed: the last echoes of God Only Knows fading out as I parked the car at work this morning.
Secondly, I have a couple of theme ideas that popped into my head. Sorry if they've been done before.

Looking for songs around the 3min mark (for next week's #theplaylist) I discovered that Snuff had done a cover of Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren (arguably "made famous" by This Mortal Coil).
