How do you turn three seemingly mundane days, regular characters, and simple (albeit humor-infused) quotidian conversations into a smooth-flowing and enjoyable novel about family dynamics and second chances? This is how.

A friend said that she didn’t read #AnneTyler as her books are ‘too samey’
I thought ‘each to their own’ & do so again as I finish #ThreeDaysInJune & marvel at how she creates distinct perfect worlds in each novel
‘Sometimes I wonder if we all live on totally separate planets

#ThreeDaysInJune 🩷💒🩷 Such a light touch & marvellous characterisation. Then this - Anger feels so much better than sadness. Cleaner somehow, more definite. But when the anger fades, the sadness comes right back again the same as ever. 🩷

Book Review: Three Days in June, by Anne Tyler
"Cats are not coldhearted!" I said. "They’re only protecting their dignity, in case they get rejected. 'I'll just reject you first,' they’re saying."

narrated by J. Smith-Cameron After years and years of reading fiction, I'm ashamed to say that this is my first time reading the work of Anne Tyler. This novel was entertaining and thought provoking. The main topic was marriage - both old, new, broken, and repaired.  The way we as human's tend to gravitate toward the known. How the camaraderie and comfort of a long-standing relationship can be exactly what we need - especially in times of emotional upheaval.

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler ~ My Thoughts #ThreeDaysInJune
Three Days in June by Anne TylerFiction, Romance, Contemporary, 165 pagesPublished February 11, 2025 by Knopf A new Anne Tyler novel destined to be an instant classic: a socially awkward mother of the bride navigates the days before and after her daughter's wedding. Gail Baines is having a bad day. To start, she loses her job—or quits, depending on whom you ask. Tomorrow her daughter, Debbie, is getting married, and she hasn’t even been invited to the spa day organized by the mother of the groom. Then, Gail’s ex-husband, Max, arrives unannounced on her doorstep, carrying a cat, without a place to stay, and without even a suit. But the true crisis lands when Debbie shares with her parents a secret she has just learned about her husband to be. It will not only throw the wedding into question but also stir up Gail and Max’s past. Told with deep sensitivity and a tart sense of humor, full of the joys and heartbreaks of love and marriage and family life, Three Days in June is a triumph, and gives us the perennially bestselling, Pulitzer Prize–winning writer at the height of her powers My thoughts about Three Days in June ~~ (I love to note the first lines of the books I'm reading. First lines can really grab a reader's attention and I love seeing where the author takes the reader after their first lines.) First lines—"People don't tap their watches anymore; have you noticed? Standard wristwatches, I'm talking about. Remember how people used to tap them?" Three Days in June covers the day before, the day of, and the day after the wedding of Gail Baines' daughter, Debbie. The first day starts off with Gail losing her job and then her ex showing up at her doorstep, with a cat. And the awkwardness and drama just continues from there. This book had me in it's grip from the very start. And Anne Tyler's writing had the words flowing from the pages to the comfort center of my brain. She has such a beautiful way with words! Throughout the turmoil and excitement of a wedding, I felt like I was among friends and enjoyed all three days that I spent with these people.  Three Days in June is a quick, enjoyable read and one I know you will enjoy. Highly recommend! I received Three Days in June from Goodreads and this is my honest opinion of the book. ******************** About the author Anne Tyler was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1941 and grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina.
