It doesn't get any more #Maryland Eastern Shore than a smoked open-faced turkey sandwich while watching waterman load their boats at the marina on #TilghmanIsland. Big Mack's Kitchen promises "we gonna eat good," and they deliver.

Black Walnut Point on #TilghmanIsland is the place where James Michener meets Leonid Brezhnev. You can walk through a forest of loblollies on trails once walked by Soviet diplomats and find evidence of the bay slowly reclaiming the island.

If I could nominate a single place that embodies the spirit of #Chesapeakebay, I would nominate #TilghmanIsland. No other place on the #Delmarva evokes Michener's Chesapeake more than this island. History, sea, and land combine creating a salubrious whole.

One if by Sea Two if By Land on #Tilghmanisland, #Maryland brings me back to the old soda fountains of my youth. It has become a popular gathering place for #breakfast on both the island and #StMichaels. Miller makes an excellent hash.

In summer, I like to walk our in-town trails. One of the best is the #TilghmanIsland, #Maryland Back Creek Park. Though small, you see #Chesapeakebay vistas, you pass a marina. But what I like most are the majestic parkland trees that remind me of Hyde Park.

Maynard Lowery, God rest him, who built boats on Tilghman Island, Maryland. I cherish the wonderful afternoon I spent with this gentleman, talking about life, craftsmanship, and boat building.
