I remember a fantastic party at the O in Pittsburgh where we met a bunch of people we'd been playing TinyMUD with for months.

"I had a 3 digit character object on the original TinyMUD. And we got in by TELNET. On port 31. I knew Maverick, and was there when the verb "to mav" was coined."

Was on TinyMUD and TinyHELL and Islandia in '89/90/91. And on AmberMUSH.

i was under the impression dikumud/tinymud/muck/moo/etc ended up being used as sorta like genre descriptors at some point, not just about the codebase? mayb im wrong

no it was tinymud or tinymush, I forget.. I get it mixed up with the one that had all the zelazny amber stuff

TinyMUD and AmberMUSH (finally remembered), also various USENET groups like comp.sys.amiga and 3D stuff, and then got into IRC around 1993

no I never tried those.. I was on tinymud and a really good one modeled on nine princes in amber, others it gets fuzzy

My particular joke, in case I'm still not being clear, was to compare my own age to that of the universe, and pick a redshift that's the same fraction of the age of the universe as TinyMUD was a fraction of my own age.

omg there are still MUDs? I was on some like before the web came out, tinymud and one other one, I remember they had built out a whole thing for zelazny's nine princes in amber, even making the travel work etc. it was super cool

I haven't been on a MUD since, fuck like 30+ years? I remember TinyMUD which I think had the Nine Princes In Amber world and was really nicely done, but may be thinking of another. I mainly remember my first experience cybering in a MUD when I was like 14 and it was SO embarrassing

I think Tinymud sounds familiar, but it was not one I know of playing more than once if I did. Never played any nine princes.
Anime Planet was.....every weeby thing you could think of for the late 90s early 00s all bundled up into a heavily modded nerd's power fantasy. 😹
