#Transliteration
I get where you’re coming from but it’s not the accent it’s the literal Japanese written pronunciation and transliteration of the title, a Japanese person with perfectly fluent English will still say Hausu in Japanese

I’m on team “it’s only one word, so only capitalize the first letter of the transliteration.”

Non-Jewish editor friend asked me if it should be Baruch Hashem or Baruch HaShem and I said there are arguments for both and transliteration is always wrong

im going to use dictionary forms of arabic verbs in transliteration to exemplify this so please dont kill me

or, rather, please dont qatal me

because when you “kill” someone you “qatal” them and then they are “maqtul”, and to be “maqtul” means to be "mayyit” or to “mata”

If you are interested in Korolyov's story and how close he was to Mishin, who was his literal "right-hand man", that he trusted. I recommend this book by James Harford. Well researched, with a huge bibliography. Transliteration was russian, so Korolyov = Korolev etc.

I think it's extra funny that the transliteration between the English and Korean plays with 받침 rules of getting a double consonant tense sound after when there's a character with a ㅅ in the final position, too. Which you get in the English as DD in Buddha. What a nerd.

Improved transliteration using ҫ instead of s because it's more accurate

lol, I never get tired of explaining to English speakers *and* Arabic speakers that my parents thought they came up with a *totally foolproof* transliteration of my name.

truly.

never gets old.

thanks, Mama and Baba.

I mean, a website ideally lets you select whether you want the original title, a transliteration of the original title, or the translated title on list pages, and display all three on the page about the specific work.

I’m not going to get into a fight about it but I do feel like it’s faintly racist to overpronounce a Japanese transliteration of an English word like this. but again not enough to yell at anyone I just roll my eyes.

It's the same with wanting "authentic" JtoE localization. It's not very authentic if it's straight transliteration. What makes the loc authentic isn't the specific words being used in the original script, but the feeling and context they evoke.

no transliteration predominated so I was pleased to use the Polish-Yiddish Yankev instead of Jacob in the article title lol. it's used in some more recent academic sources so there's a case for it.

Reminds me of one of my favourite bits of Jim Jarmusch’s Mystery Train: “Ervisu Presrey” “Caru Perkinsa” (excuse my transliteration). www.youtube.com/watch?v=40_1...

(I mean - he wrote the Bukharan greeting in Cyrillic, & he rendered the greeting for the middle days of sukkot in transliteration from Hebrew. But it's not my masoret (tradition) to ever wish someone a happy hol hamo'ed*, so that's why I was struck by the 2 phrasings in 2 alphabets_/

I redid this because apparently God doesn't want me to post anything without a humiliating error, even when I proofread. I also fixed the inconsistent transliteration!
September 28, 2026 at 9:06 PM
Tfw you're inconsistent in your transliteration even tho you actually proofread this one 😔🤙
