Ah, TurboPascal and Basic. Those were the days. First informatics at 12, on a GDR computer with tape drive. A year later some PCs, but I had more knowledge than the teacher. Real proper lessons with 14, after I changed schools.

I had to wait until 14 to get first proper informatics/computer lessons in school. I already figured out programing in TurboPascal, PowerBasic, and TurboC. And I realized I didn't like any of those languages.
By then I was already conversationally fluent in English, because I had to read manuals. :)

A friend of mine wrote a small accounting package in TurboPascal for small businesses alongside his day job doing programming. Allowed him to take better holidays.

Wij hadden 2 soorten Informatica in min of meer dezelfde periode. Toegepaste Informatica waar je leerde werken met spreadsheets en tekstverwerkers, werd vooral inde economische richtingen gegeven. En daarnaast had je Informatica waar je TurboPascal aangeleerd kreeg in de wiskundige richtingen.

As I recall, Clarke used Wordstar on a Kapro.
I never used it, but I used the editor in TurboPascal which did use a great deal of the key bindings from Wordstar!
