#UNDRIP
At the UN Biodiversity COP in Armenia this week, NZ sided with Russia in trying to weaken key Indigenous rights provisions and remove #UNDRIP references in the governance framework of the new committee on IP&LCs role in biodiversity protection. The head of NZ delegation pointed me to Winston. #nzpol

“To Prime Minister Carney and the politicians studying Bill C-39, I have a message for you: our rights are not yours to bargain away.”

No, those 'rights' being claimed by the indigenous don't emanate from our Constitution.... they are a mis-interpretation of a UN document known as UNDRIP. And that document is also just a 'guide' for indigenous matters:

You have no idea. To evoke the Indian Act means they’re prepared to get serious. Rights and title and UNDRIP will be part of the discussion. Don’t you have some Poilievre bashing to do?

Carney's government doesn't give a fuck about Indigenous rights and they are building a case for all sorts of colonial fuckery

Well, the new BC government wants to scrap DRIPA, so it is not just Carney. The big issue is that, UNDRIP or not, Aboriginal rights are well established in the Constitution and case law. If First Nations go to the courts, they will win.
October 28, 2026 at 5:38 PM
So DRIPA is a BC acceptance of a UNDRIP: United Nations declaration on the rights of Indigenous peoples. DRIPA is a provincial bill 41 to align BC laws with the declaration and formulate a plan. UNDRIP was passed in 2007. Not sure how new govt can get rid of it. But who knows.

We will have to pay very close attention to what this Conservative group proposes or does and make our voices heard. Already they are talking of doing away with undrip and making modifications to the budget...which likely means cuts to relied upon services.

Sure, as soon as soon as we finish implementing TRC and UNDRIP, which’ll be any day now.

The ACT & New Zealand First parties are in a coalition with National

They have backed an ad promoting voting in electorates for National & party list voting for their parties

They are trying to obtain a majority of seats with a minority of the vote.

Brash, ACT & NZF reject UNDRIP

I have a profound sense of unease today as to what our future looks like. Mainly for the stands on UNDRIP and SOGI as well as fast tracking major resource development.

no dispute that what Eby did is inexcusable.

how ppl chose to vote, is on them though. Ppl who didn't vote... on them. The damage being done in other Con provs is no secret. What BCCons committed to re UNDRIP, MSP, ICBC and more, is no secret. If you could vote for that/not vote, that's on you

To understand what premier designate Lorne Doerkson wants to revoke, attached is a simple explanation.
First Nations in Canada have been oppressed for centuries. Truth & Reconciliation, UNDRIP & DRIPA are the first major steps to end the discrimination of the first peoples here.

So discouraged by what BC just did to themselves. The racism sown by the Alberta referendum is now also going to become a part of the new government in BC. UNDRIP will be repealed. Extraction of resource is a given. As is getting the route Smith really wants for her pipeline. This is awful.

Opinion: B.C.’s UNDRIP law was doomed from the start
The fiasco around DRIPA in B.C. shows that aligning Canadian laws with Indigenous rights required more than what the law provided - as well as actual leadership

Whatever happens to "DRIPA"in BC, United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) remains the UN Human Rights directive for protecting Indigenous Peoples' cultural rights, traditional knowledge, spiritual beliefs, land management systems, worldwide. It's NOT an option ... 1/2
Digesting #BCElection2026 this morning & worrying about what it means for DRIPA, truth, justice and reconciliation, Indigenous land rights, & our human rights obligations.

Waking up to messages like this is exactly why.

We must now work even harder to resist the erosion of Indigenous rights.
