Curiously, I've *never* used one of these modems.

By 1986 I was a post grad at the UniMelb Comp Sci. The 1st place in Oz to have internet (to the US) over TCP/IP - just like today. And I've never worked anywhere that hasn't had it, or until post 2000, that cared what you did on the work Internet

I'm back on campus at Unimelb for the first time in several years today.

It's fascinating to me how it has simultaneously changed so much and barely at all in the seven years since I worked here.

Exclusive Brethren don’t let women speak in church, only men (unless things have changed a hella lot).
UniMelb survey showed misogyny is the best predictor of violence.
Seems Gina funded an “anti-social” campaign. #auspol
🚨The Exclusive Brethren was highly active at remote, NT Indigenous polling booths at the last federal election, an inquiry has heard.

Inquiry told Gina Rinehart's private jet ferried Brethren members.

Rinehart rejects the claims as "fake news" ...

Thought provoking keynote from Katrina McFerran, who's deliberately thinking about 'choosing' rather than 'using' music
& advocating for (1) the consideration of intuitive and intellectual choice and (2) digging deeper into what 'participant-chosen' 'preferred' music is

When I first started as an UnderGrad at UniMelb in 1995, Psychology was in the Arts faculty. And the freaks like Peterson and Pinker prospered and are in no way ‘scientists’
My newest Presidential Column for @psychscience.bsky.social addresses the issue of psychologists' dominant use of convenience samples for their research. Can our science stop being WEIRD if we don't consider how we sample? www.psychologicalscience.org/publications...

Spring in Melbourne is notorious for setting off people's allergies, and now we know who the culprit is 🌾

UniMelb experts used DNA metabarcoding to identify what was in weekly air samples collected over 2 consecutive years. Turns out perennial ryegrass could be the reason → unimelb.me/4xyxQ1H

6/ Mr Jones, like Mr Yemini, is probably fortunate that he's pro-Zionist, or his antics might have got him into trouble by now, or at least have had his Bodyguard, Crowd Controller, Security Guard, Private Security Trainer licence -- No. 827-892-10S; exp. 25/07/2029 -- re-examined.
