BEIRUT — Ibrahim Mrad, president of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP), said Lebanon’s economic crisis cannot be resolved without confronting the country’s political and security structure, calling for the restoration of state authority, the disarmament of militias and an end to what he described as Iranian influence over Lebanese decision-making. In a televised interview with Spot Shot, Mrad argued that Lebanon’s prolonged political and economic instability was closely tied to Iran-backed Hezbollah militia’s military power and its relationship with Iran.
