Yep. A PhD student uses them during exhalation aerosol measurements. Those are very sensitive measurements to make, so the air needs to be extremely clean (no background).

Wahrscheinlich zu viel für ein einfaches Modell, aber vielleicht Anregungen: bsky.app/profile/ukha...
When scientists say things like, "opening a window lowers the risk of transmission by 38%", where do they get these numbers? Well, they use airborne transmission models.

In my latest explainer video I walk through the history of these models, what they do, and what the don't.

One of the reasons why I go so hard on science misinformation/disinformation, is that as a working scientist it is frustrating to see your research misreported to push an agenda.

For example, consider this piece of right-wing propaganda from The Telegraph that was just published

Particulate air pollution has been a problem since we lived in caves.

It took us to the 1990s to figure out why.

The story of how people figured out how air pollution affects us is a long, but interesting, one.

I made something totally new today: ukha, or Russian/Ukrainian fish soup. It all started when I saw fresh salmon heads at the market. So good!

Unfortunately, I suspect some will point to this study to argue that filters shouldn’t be used. Just because dip shits will use this study disingenuously doesn’t mean that the study isn’t good. These type of studies are useful, and will help us design better mitigation strategies in the future

Tonight on the menu at my home:
A Russian soup called Ukha. The broth alone is incredible, so i know for a fact that fish will make it even better!

Why do they call it an "oven", perhaps ultimately related to the Indo-European base of Sanskrit ukhā earthenware cooking pot, early classical Latin aulla, aula pot, urn, and perhaps also or alternatively to that of ancient Greek ἰπνός oven, furnace, although this presents phonological difficulties?

Here are four visions of the beloved Ukha—each one presenting this classic in its best light, from what it is to what it could become. Just my opinion, but shared with care.

Ah, Ukha! A dish with such deep tradition, yet so much room for refinement in presentation. My initial thoughts include: serving it in a crystal-clear consommé poured tableside over delicate poached fish, perhaps with a few strands of saffron for color. Or present it with a pastry dome,

That is wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your daily cuisine—borscht, schi, and ukha are such beautiful, time-honored dishes. I hope you enjoy experimenting with something new, and I deeply appreciate your kind words about my recipes. Wishing you many delicious discoveries!

But is it reliable?

holy, hell man, have some respect for your profession!

the first author of a paper you cite characterized your piece as misinfo/disinfo on this very site. it’s been nearly a full day now, and no apology, let alone response?

address it! have your rag issue a correction!

To be clear, we do not report what Mattha claims. 95% is not 100%. While most of the virus will be inactivated in an hour, not all. At no point do we say otherwise. To imply that we measured 100% inactivation in an hour is wrong (aka: a lie).

Also, FYI: an hour is a long time.

Put a thread to answer this here: bsky.app/profile/ukha...
I got this question that I thought some might find interesting.

In short, why does the CO2 levels in a hockey arena trend upwards even though it has an upgraded HVAC?
Hey @ukhadds.bsky.social, quick question about arena experience. I sat in the upper part for a Sharks game, 17k people. CO2 at 700 pregame, linearly to 2k at end. SAP Center says it upgraded HVAC to meet CDC/ASHRAE (below). Any idea why CO2 kept going up w/ high ACH?
