Did we have a hashtag for these kinds of travesties?

Heat wave incoming (or already here) in the US. So ... some #mathchat #unitchat stuff

Let's say it is X˚ [F/C you pick] outside

- if you are uncomfortable in F, are you also uncomfortable in C and vice versa?
- is there a temperature where you are ok it is X˚ outside regardless of it being F or C?

You've probably been wondering: "How many eels is a cottage worth in 14th C. England?"

This is a reasonable question. I get it. And happily, I'm here to help! I included a chart showing this kind of equivalence in an article I wrote for HistoryExtra , but here's an excerpt!

A small human (6?) runs up to Mum and says: "Mum! Uhm they have ice cream thingies and chocolate thingies and strawberry thingies. And uhm can I have some?!"
Mum says: "You can have one."
Small Human's face screws up in intense thought before saying optimistically. "You mean one each?" (5)

Why are the unitless bars juxtaposed? What is a novice learner to understand by this juxtaposition?

Like, MAYBE there's a #unitchat here. Notice how the bar is the whole, and we can operate on it the same way, no matter what whole it represents.

But this task does not set up that conversation.

The ‘bel’ in ‘decibel’ is for Alexander Graham Bell.

Since the ‘B’ in 'dB' is a name-derived unit, it is capitalized when abbreviated.

TIL:
CDs were originally smaller in diameter, and could only hold an hour of music, but were made physically larger during development so they could hold 74 minutes of music, specifically so that they were big enough to hold a full performance of Beethoven's 9th symphony.
