Noncount nouns are words that don’t have usual plural forms.

These are words like ‘sand’ or ‘butter.’

They don’t use indefinite articles like ‘a’ or ‘an’ and take singular verbs.

“The butter is melting.”

“Sand blew in his face.”

Counting things is, actually, political. It’s laden with choices about what to count, who gets to count and who gets counted, how to display numbers in ways that shape the possible frames for interpretation or which are more or less accessible, etc
Numbers aren’t political. Numbers are numbers. We INTERPRET numbers in different ways, but after all, they’re STILL numbers!

The ‘bel’ in ‘decibel’ is for Alexander Graham Bell.

Since the ‘B’ in 'dB' is a name-derived unit, it is capitalized when abbreviated.

Petition to replace “billion” with “thousand million” and “trillion” with “million million”
I've taken to referring to corruption claims in standardized units.

Jared Kushner got bribes of $3,115 million. Ivanka got bribes of $640 million.

Hunter Biden was accused of accepting $0.6 million in salary from Burisma.

"My car gets 27 trillion per square mile!" –accurate statements dreamed up by the utterly deranged #unitchat #MathSky
Yeah, cancelling units often obscures meaning. Like if you converted miles/gallon to 1/miles^2

A small human (6?) runs up to Mum and says: "Mum! Uhm they have ice cream thingies and chocolate thingies and strawberry thingies. And uhm can I have some?!"
Mum says: "You can have one."
Small Human's face screws up in intense thought before saying optimistically. "You mean one each?" (5)
