Congratulations to Angela Palmer for winning the Art in Stone award from the Stone Federation for her works Torus of Time and Tower of Time.

Torus of Time, which represents 3 billion years of geological history made of stones collected by Angela from across the UK, is now on display at the Museum

It’s Book Week in Scotland 🥳
We thought we’d kick off the celebration by introducing ourselves to our new followers, starting with our resident rock. For those missing #OrkneyLibrary may our chunk of Lewisian Gneiss fill the void 🪨

As a volcanologist 🌋, in a family of geos, cool kitchen countertops are a must. Ended up with a slightly metamorphosed sandstone + fine cross-bedding outlined by garnets!

If only we'd seen this slab of trachytic columns... (photo by Zane Jobe, www.linkedin.com/in/zane-jobe)

I would guess that the Stockholm Airport on it's floors has the largest collection of polished slabs with Ordovician faunas, traces fossils and especially orthocone cephalopods! Hundreds and hundreds of acres 1/2

So, the last picture I took from my last work was from this plagioclase twin in what diorite (something like that) on the floor of the staircase that I walked past ever day. Every morning I told it hi and said goodbye.
