Happy #MineralMonday from a particularly exhausted cat!
Today I am showing off another old one of mine, an excellent crystals of Vivianite! It is pleochroic and a phosphate so I am naturally a huge fan!

Another fun corpse fact: If buried in an iron coffin, vivianite crystals can form inside the bones as a result of a chemical reaction of the decomposing body with the iron enclosure

Look at this fucken beautiful vivianite paint.
I know, it's not as blue as lapis lazuli, blah blah, why don't I make that yah de yaddah.
Because 1) I love vivianite, and 2) a lot of lapis pigments come from Afghanistan so it's hard to source them ethically.
Also 3) did I mention I love vivianite?

this is vivianite (my dream specimen)
~ found on decaying organic matter. basically of a dead body ends up buried somewhere that is waterlogged, lacking in oxygen and loaded with iron, the phosphate leaking from their decaying remains slowly combined with the iron and water to create this <3

Vivianite is a fascinating mineral whose color changes over time. Transparent or faintly colored before extraction, it displays this fantastic blue-green color before becoming opaque. It must be protected from light.

Honestly, I don’t know whether I love vivianite more for its story or its luscious color.
If you put it in jewelry, I *will* be begging for it.

Vivianite crystal grows inside of and on corpses under specific conditions. The stones start out clear but darken upon exposure to oxygen.

Vivianite:
- A phosphate mineral
- Colourless when pure/fresh, oxidation changes its colour
- Forms in pegmatites, oxidised metal ores, fossils...
- Softer than fingernails
- Named after John Henry Vivian (1785-1855), a mineralogist and mine owner #minerals #FossilFriday
