The Supreme Court’s destruction of the Voting Rights Act threatens to return the country to a pre-1965 America, when white supremacy was the law of the land, and Congress contained no Black members from the South.
Jim Crow was on the ash heap of history. Then came the Roberts court.
The disaster the justices have unleashed has its roots in one of the darkest periods of our past.

2013: #SCOTUS Guts #VotingRightsAct of 1965
Facts: In #ShelbyCountyVsHolder, the SCOTUS struck down the coverage formula as unconstitutional, reasoning it was no longer responsive to current conditions. #SCOTUS did not strike down Sec 5, but w/out a coverage formula, Sec 5 is unenforceable.

As a result of the Court’s decision, state lawmakers nationwide started introducing 100s of harsh measures making it harder to vote. The new laws range from strict photo identification requirements to early voting cutbacks to registration restrictions.

I just sent my letter. Join me. John Roberts displayed strong reasons he should not have been appointed to the Supreme Court in the first place, starting as a participant in the 2000 Florida election fiasco and a dogged opposition to the #VotingRightsAct, which his decisions rendered toothless.
