I forget - who was the Tory that suggested WASPI women should do an apprenticeship when Osborne’s removal of 6 yrs state pension took affect? Apparently this conservative MP still thinks they should #PoliticsLive

Just ask WASPI Women about the rules being changed half way through.
Mind you, Bluesky generally has no sympathy for that rule change.

Burnham's apologism? Not content with u-turns on public ownership, fiscal rules and WASPI claimants? Now cite the 2024 manifesto as a false excuse. It cannot justify his failure to equalise capital gains tax with income tax, impose a far larger, permanent ax on banks, besides a wealth tax. Disgrace.

When are you going to actually get off the fence and do the right thing by Waspi women @andyburnham.bsky.social ?We've waited far too long for our rightful compensation and we won't be letting this drop, believe me.

Well I’m a bit fed up with them
I hardly ever go to the doctor, I’m lucky but I think the Health people have made this far more complicated than it needed to be
As a #waspi I’ve had enough snatched from me!

Andy Burnham is facing fresh demands from cross-party MPs to compensate women affected by an increase in the state pension age "as soon as possible".

Left: Keir Starmer campaigned with WASPI women, and then rejected the recommendation to compensate them when PM

Right: Andy Burnham supported an end to fossil fuels with @fossiltreaty.bsky.social but then opened up Jackdraw for gas extraction when he became PM

Why not, it’s more or less what they did to WASPI women and that cost each of them about £40k

Pretty well everything about him stinks of disappointment.

He had made several major populist promises which have then been refuted by others in his regime. Such as an additional £10b for WASPI women and Water nationisation.

The gas field permission was first announced to the press before >

Signing a contract with a British government is no guarantee that they will honour it. Ask the #waspi women.

This has been going in for years. WASPI women had a shocking time finding employment. Age discrimination is a massive problem in the work place.

You're right on both accounts, adhering rigidly, and being impatient.

But this isn't that.

This is about two politicians who have u-turned on the very thing they campaigned for.

Comp for WASPI was minimal, Starmer could have accepted the recommendation.

Jackdraw wasn't compulsory.

as a WASPI woman. we never signed a contract. when they tell you what they are going to take in tax. and what you may get back in the future, that is not a contract.
October 22, 2026 at 12:00 PM
that's nice. this is what happened when Labour ran on a manifesto pledge to fully compensate Waspi - you might remember it:

I would have quite liked them to stick to no new gas but as they were pre-approved, and also so small, it isn't really a reversal to me.

Starmer should never have campaigned for the WASPI women. Stupid - there's no good argument and would cost a fortune, - obviously going to end up in a reversal.

I guarantee the WASPI women absolutely want their annual wine money

To show how browbeaten we are with this, not so many years ago, I was discussing pensions with a friend (a WASPI woman). I said "you must be so angry...".
Her answer, "...but the country can't afford it".
(Found a room to scream in).

lol possibly, though tbh the Waspi campaign is actually notable by just how *little* impact it's had - the only time one of the main two parties paid real heed to it was Labour in 2019, and it almost certainly did them more harm than good

senior politicians realise by now Waspi is noisy but narrow
