KABUL, Jan 28 (NNN-BNA) – Two children lost their lives and three others were injured, as roofs of two houses collapsed in the southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, yesterday, said a statement of the provincial Directorate for Information and Culture, today. The incidents took place in Garmsir and Gereshk districts respectively in the wake of rain and snowfall. The outage occurred during a period of extreme heat, making the lack of air conditioning particularly challenging. Entergy attributed the outage to a "load shed," a last-resort measure taken by the regional transmission center to prevent a larger, more damaging failure of the power grid. CLECO also reported a forced power outage affecting approximately 25,000 customers in communities including Covington, Mandeville, Madisonville, Lacombe, and Franklinton. This outage, lasting under two hours, was directed by the Midcontinent Independent Reliability System Operator (MISO) to avert a more extensive and prolonged disruption. CLECO apologized for the lack of advance notice, explaining that the emergency nature of the situation prevented timely communication. They are coordinating with MISO to investigate the cause and prevent future incidents.
