This road is lined with over ONE HUNDRED Giant Sequoia

Planted in the 1860s as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington. Wellingtonia Avenue - Crowthorne, England

The trees were actually called Wellingtonia at the time until science settled on Sequoiadendron giganteum

The forecast fog didn't materialise, but it's still nice to get out into the woods early in the morning :)

Walked up to the lovely redwoods the other night - hadn’t been for a couple of months. Still fabulous 🥰

Saw this tree in the grounds of an inn on the isle of Arran. A wellingtonia, AKA giant redwood. A massive trunk, but maybe small by US standards.

Absolutely adore these trees in my local woodland. Who'd've thought there'd be giant redwoods round here! (Wellingtonia/sequoiadendron giganteum)

My entry for this week's #sharemondays2026
The avenue of giant redwood trees (that aren't that giant as they were only planted about 65 years ago). Sun is filtering through and the floor is littered with their soft brown needles.

I love this avenue or Wellingtonia (sequoiadendron giganteum or giant redwoods).

They were planted in 1952 by Mary Wellesley who'd bought the woodland to rescue it from neglect, and then gifted it to the forestry commission in 1986.

An avenue of small redwoods (only 71 years old). There are some autumnal ferns at the base of the trees, a brown path covered with needles and leaves, and some fog in the distance.

Treecreeper calling at this #RedSquirrell for #FirstBirdOfMyDay… sounded in a proper strop / flap.

Perhaps the Squirrel had woken him up from his smooth “hollow” in the bark of the Wellingtonia / Sequoia?

A view of Askham Hall and Gardens, Askham, Cumbria, England. In the foreground is the thick base of a large Wellingtonia or Giant Sequoia tree. A row of topiary yew trees is to the right. In the centre background between the large tree and the yew trees is Askham Hall which dates from the 13th century. It is square in shape with 3 storeys. There are 5 large windows on each level. The top of the building is turreted like a castle. Its restaurant called Allium is one of 13 with a Michelin Star in Cumbria. The sky is blue with some light white clouds.

This tree on a grassy traffic island in Shirehampton is a Wellingtonia gigantea - most famously known as a giant sequoia.
Originating in California, they grow into the most massive trees in the world.
It was planted in 1887 to celebrate 50 years of Queen Victoria’s reign

Giant #trees have always fascinated me in stories and games. That's why my upcoming #book will also center around one as an important location. Photo underneath is a #wellingtonia I saw last year near Tuttlingen.
Picture of a giant wellingtonia with brown and red bark. It's crown has still quite a lot leafs while around it there is a deep green forest.
