Planted in the 1860s as a memorial to the Duke of Wellington. Wellingtonia Avenue - Crowthorne, England

The trees were actually called Wellingtonia at the time until science settled on Sequoiadendron giganteum

Saw this tree in the grounds of an inn on the isle of Arran. A wellingtonia, AKA giant redwood. A massive trunk, but maybe small by US standards.

The avenue of giant redwood trees (that aren't that giant as they were only planted about 65 years ago). Sun is filtering through and the floor is littered with their soft brown needles.

I love this avenue or Wellingtonia (sequoiadendron giganteum or giant redwoods).

They were planted in 1952 by Mary Wellesley who'd bought the woodland to rescue it from neglect, and then gifted it to the forestry commission in 1986.

This tree on a grassy traffic island in Shirehampton is a Wellingtonia gigantea - most famously known as a giant sequoia.
Originating in California, they grow into the most massive trees in the world.
It was planted in 1887 to celebrate 50 years of Queen Victoria’s reign

Giant #trees have always fascinated me in stories and games. That's why my upcoming #book will also center around one as an important location. Photo underneath is a #wellingtonia I saw last year near Tuttlingen.
