Donoso achieved an artwork that goes beyond traditional and even experimental forms…It's a laying bare through masks and disguise...hinted at through images seen sideways...an...affirmation of existence.

At once their attitude towards the girl was changed. She was no enemy….
'You'll join us again now, won't you, Siss?'
She shook her head.
She could not tell them about the promise and that she had been given a great gift.

Once again I have waited for the very end of #WITmonth to drop some women in translation content.

I kept wanting an easy place to send people to make it easy for them to buy the books I am yelling about, so I spent hours curating a list on bookshop.

Before the end of #womenintranslationmonth, I wanted to reflect on the joy of co-teaching a seminar about the theory and practice of literary translation at @emorycollege.bsky.social with Professor Didem Uca, who translates between German, Turkish, and English.

On the Calculation of Volume, by Solvej Balle, trs. Barbara J Haveland.

Tara wakes up and it's 18 November. Which was yesterday's date. Or was it? What has happened to time?

I read this in less than 24 hours, in 2 sittings. It really does live up to the hype!

On a Woman's Madness, by Astrid Roemer, trs. Lucy Scott.

Noenka leaves her husband after 9 days of marriage & flees to Paramaribo, where she finds lovers, new freedoms, herself & her sexuality, but cannot leave the past behind. Disturbing but lyrically gorgeous.
