With that in place, I can finally get to the fun part: reading and writing the digimon with my xgecu t48.

Just to round this off for #MARCHintosh, the EEPROM programmer arrived along with some chips to put in it, and writing the ROM worked! So if anyone happens to stumble across this information in future: if you want to replace an SE/30 video ROM, you can use an AT28C64 (I got 5 for < €5 on Aliexpress)

The XGecu ones are cheap as chips - you can get a bundle with a lot of adapters for something like $25. Not sure which chip your board uses but if you post it here I will tell you if you need a specific adapter to flash it. Anyway if you get one you can then look for a MR-BIOS for your board

Today I've been mainly reading EEPROM'S and EPROM'S. This XGecu T48 programmer is a game changer for me, so many things I can use it for. I've verified the BIOS on a 286 motherboard I'm repairing, this is going to be an awesome tool. I've been backing up every chip in can find!🤣

I've never used one of these, and didn't have the context to understand the diagrams, so actually hooking up the XGecu was hard to figure out. I had my Dupont cables, my sop8 clip, and the adapter to plug the Dupont cables into the IC slots, but how to hook them up? In what orders do the cables go?

its scary how cheap EPROM programmers are now.. they used to be hundreds near thousands of pounds and now you can buy the XGecu T48 for about £50 !

A decade ago I fished this out of a skip at NRK, from a BBC Micro otherwise too crushed by a modulation analyzer to save. Finally getting around to imaging the ROMs for posterity.

I'd probably recommend the Xgecu T48 now. I have the TL866-II PLUS and it's good, but the T48 is a newer version of it that does more. I dont know about the GQ.

You also need to find yourself a programmer with a 150ml SOP8/16 socket adapter where the chip will fit. I can recommend XGecu Pro T48, but other programmers do work too

XGecu provides also the software for programming. The one I use is Xgpro. This software detects your T48 when you plug it into your computer's USB port. You need to select the right IC too, which in our case is PIC12F508

From my personal experience with the XGEcu devices I can say that if it tests OK then chip can still be faulty, but if it tests NOK then the chip is definitely faulty.

I picked up one of the XGecu Pro's last year after trying to fight with dubious drivers from my old programmers, again, and I have to say I quite like it. I haven't tested the 16-bit EPROMs yet, but it's supposed to handle them with just the USB power supply.

Two hours of troubleshooting later... I had two floating pins on code and two pins soldered in the wrong place 🫠. But I think it should work. Maybe by this weekend I'll get it done 😅. Or maybe I should buy the XGecu T48 and if arrives before I finish lol

I got my hands on the modded Road Show L-6 software that removes the completely linear mode order. Really curious to see it in action.
Also, this Xgecu burner is so lame compared to my Stag Solar, but this new toy is so much faster!

Like, what cables go where? Which way do i orient the probe when connecting it to the pet? There are 40 slots on the xgecu, which ones do I put the Duponts connected the probe into....

Every time I use my XGecu programmer I want to kiss the person who wrote the documentation fully on the mouth. Easy to follow, full of good screenshots and pictures, helpful troubleshooting notes, clear and concise.

I realise I can/will create this easily on a prototype PCB but ... is there really no one selling a simple "XGecu adapter for Flashcat" adapter?
I have loads of flash adapters for my XGecu and won't really rebuy the same adapters for Flashcat just because they're not 1:1 pin layout compatible ...
