#YesToHomes
Thank you for having me! It's time we say #YesToHomes!
Thank you Senator @lindseyportmn.bsky.social and Sen. Jim Carlson for joining @isaiahmn.org and #YesToHomes in Inver Grove Heights this morning! Dakota County residents are asking #mnleg to pass bills that allow more homes in more places and put an end to exclusionary zoning laws.

Congratulations on a great celebration and a productive year building toward the future! Looking forward to continued partnership as we help Minnesota say #yestohomes next year.
It was great celebrating the end of the 2025 legislative session with N4MN's volunteers last night. Couldn't make it? Click the link below to check out the legislative session highlights and join our mailing list to stay in the know on upcoming events.

The #MNleg can help us grow up not out by legalizing more homes throughout Minnesota.

We have the space, we need to make it possible to say #YesToHomes.

In Minnesota these are called aesthetic mandates. And in addition to making strange looking buildings, they also add unnecessary costs.

#HF2013 / #SF2836 is in the #MNleg this session to help address rules like these that block homes and make them more expensive. #YesToHomes
This is an example of how Objective Design Standards, which are part of zoning, make buildings look like patchwork. Dublin (which does do a good job of building housing) has 42 pages of ODS www.dublin.ca.gov/DocumentCent...

EIGHTY percent of MN voters polled want action from state government to allow more homes, and fix our housing shortage -- 80%! We need #mnleg to act. #YesToHomes
So, what do Minnesotans think should be done about the need for more homes?

They agree that we need to enact the entire #YesToHomes agenda at the state level. 80% think #MNleg should take action to allow more homes in Minnesota.
March 20, 2025 at 12:00 PM
Only 25% of city lots allow more than one home per lot.

75% ban apartments, ADUs, and townhomes.

City interest groups look at those numbers and say “never change”. #YesToHomes
80% of Minnesotans agree: We don’t have enough homes & the #MNleg should fix it.

But city interest groups are using taxpayer $ to prevent that, which means higher rents & fewer opportunities.

We demand a future where we can choose where to live. Where every city has thriving neighborhoods.
MN cities lobby against restrictions aimed at lowering cost of homes
A bipartisan group of lawmakers are pushing several housing bills, but cities are lobbying to be left alone.

A bipartisan vision to build more homes in Minnesota
No city can do this on its own. We need a statewide approach.

Our twin cities are making progress to fill the gap but it’s not enough. We invite cousins in the suburbs & greater MN to make it easier to build more homes. I look forward to the help of these 2 fantastic mission-driven nonprofits to help us make the changes we need at the state level.

🏡Check out this fantastic poll from our friends @moreneighbors.org showing that Minnesotans stand with us in supporting the #YesToHomes agenda at the ongoing State Legislative Session. 🏘️
Minnesota voters strongly support the policies proposed by the #YesToHomes coalition this session. We know this because we've conducted new polling between February 28 and March 6, 2025, which is available here: moreneighbors.org/2025/03/18/p...

More than 100+ gathered today at our locally organized ISAIAH event, to hear powerful stories of the harm that skyrocketing rents and home prices creates for Minnesotans. MN needs state-wide solutions via zoning reform! #YestoHomes @isaiahmn.org @larrykraft.bsky.social @governorwalz.mn.gov

This also included the A-19 amendment which limits cities power to require HOAs.
Cities in MN are using HOAs to do things like force front yards to be owned by the HOA rather than by homeowners.
HOAs can still be formed for parks, pools, and other amenities. As chosen by residents. #YesToHomes

This is sprawl. 🗞️Read all about it. It's bad for all (including climate). #YesToHomes but not everywhere.

A rural holdout is now one of the Twin Cities’ fastest-growing suburbs
Northwest metro suburbs mushroomed around rural Dayton, which is now reckoning with explosive growth of its own and pressure from its neighbors to address it.

Loved to see the facts on parking from Sen. @omarfatehmn.com today during the hearing on #SF1268. Parking mandates are a large driver of the cost of homes in Minnesota.

Allowing more homes to be built by removing parking mandates (often a 3 car garage) is crucial to the #YesToHomes agenda.
Parking mandates were introduced to prevent cars from being parked on streets. "Rather than parking lots land could be used to build homes, farms, businesses (and more) instead." "The average parking spot in Minneapolis costs $40k per spot to build." "Renters can save $200-300/month per spot".

Couldn’t have said it any better. As Sen. Rasmusson (R-Fergus Falls) makes clear, affordable housing is a need that transcends party and geography. #YesToHomes

It’s great to see New Ulm expand its housing options, but with MN short over 100k homes, we cannot afford to wait for other cities to do the same.

It’s time for a regional approach: #YestoHomes legislation.
