Third time lucky with the Eastern Black redstart.
After two days in the Scarborough rain the sun shone and the bird showed better than I could have hoped. What a beauty

Final trip of the year to Spurn turned up a few little crackers.
Shore larks being one of the first birds of the day was definitely a good sign

Yellowhammer, yesterday. Consolation for not hearing a Quail? Yes! a) I love YHs & b) I wasn’t expecting this fantastic bird to be singing in this light & I always expect to fail on Quail. #birds #ukbirding #yorksbirding #quail #yellowhammer #birdsseenin2026

Unbelievable! Last night I saw a Quail run across a track at Orgreave Lagoons. This was my 10th attempt to try & see one. I wasn’t quick enough to get a pic, but Sam was stood next to me and managed this. Wow. Never give up. UK #324 #yorksbirding #ukbirding #birds #quail #lifer #birdsseenin2026

2 Great Shears first thing were a big surprise off Easington, even better they were followed a few mins later by a close in Corys. 3 Sooties, a Puffin and a 'playful' Arctic Skua completed a great pre-work watch #Yorksbirding

Thornton-le-dale was was the destination, Dipper was the bird atop the list of hopefuls, Nuthatch always appreciated due the seemingly distinct lack of them in East Yorkshire

Barred warbler showed for me at last during today’s trip to the east coast. Bempton also had plenty of flycatchers, Wheatear and Whinchat fattening up.
A Red-backed shrike at Buckton and a short bike ride saw me in a field at Flamborough with the wonderful Wryneck

New Year’s Day birding means no buses running and a reliance on Northern Rail. 🤞
