Oh nice, backing up my work computer and I found the zipfiles with all of the professional photographer photos of my wedding, I was a little worried we'd totally misplaced those.
God I look awkward in so many of these photos though.

I'll add, virus total can NOT scan password protected zip files (scammers know this which is why they send you password protected zipfiles.) so be careful about that

Heyo, new month means new zipfiles for supporters. $5 gets you the zipfile, and access to the old art archive, containing everything up to the end of 2023. (Also a sketches folder, but there wasn't much in there this month) Links in thread.

Zipfiles really are so magic.
I just downloaded a couple of dozen of 40 mb files. Chuck them in cloud storage, unzip them.
20 min later, I find out that my internet is running slow because my computer is uploading 45 gb worth of map data.

The site was one of the first to routinely strip metadata off images after a user started harassing another who'd been lying about their location by posting the GPS data; images with hidden embeds like zipfiles are blocked from uploading.

All the zipfiles are unzipped, overnight. This final stage of the first batch of backups for deduping is... scanning 60k files. No, 120k. Scanned and found something like 7k duplicates but I forgot to pay attention to the final figure.

Without engaging the idea of Technique directly, I'm not sure how totalizing it is as a framework. Which is kind of funny, because that's also what I've been thinking about with the kind of compressed conceptual language that happens with LLMs -- and social media. Cognitive zipfiles, if you like.

I helped some with the colors on this piece that Warpus made! (Our art collective releases images twice a year in zipfiles that are also hosted on 16colo.rs) - this type of pixel art has a limited color palette locked into what you'd typically see on a bbs in the 90s. https://16colo.rs/pack/laz17

Yeah I always struggle with it sometimes. Gotta download those 5-6 zipfiles, then get windower and such set-up, it always gets me frustrated at times.

sys.path tells #Python where to look when importing a module.
Think of it as a list of directories. But it also handles zipfiles.
A zipfile in sys.path is treated as a directory. Files in the zipfile can be imported.

It's easy to query the bulk Parquet outputs with @pola.rs @duckdb.org or pandas. So far we've only applied basic transforms -- real dtypes & NULL values, standardized categorical values, etc. But the upgrade to a modern cloud-native format is a huge improvement over nested zipfiles.
Our monthly automated processing of @ferc.gov EQR data seems to be working. New Parquet outputs that run through 2025Q4 now available in S3. We've also integrated EQR into the PUDL Data Viewer, so you can browse before downloading:

It's easy to query the bulk Parquet outputs with @pola.rs @duckdb.org or pandas. So far we've only applied basic transforms -- real dtypes & NULL values, standardized categorical values, etc. But the upgrade to a modern cloud-native format is a huge improvement over nested zipfiles.
FWIW, I am very much against all uses of so called Artificial Intelligence. The world was quite OK without it and especially without armies of ignorant tech-heads cramming it into everything. The invention of a method to create oversized talking zipfiles is not a requirement for advancing humanity!

This is from azanorak.com which is mostly offshore radio, which means AM and the sound quality that comes with that. But personally, I don 't mind, it just makes it more authentic. You need a password to extract the zipfiles, which should be easy to find :)
