A randomized trial showed Factor XIa inhibitor (abelacimab) compared with the currently used Factor Xa blocking agents (rivoroxaban) for atrial fibrillation led to significantly less bleeding events, leading to early trial termination

Interesting results with abelacimab in patients with A Fib @NEJM👇
Can uncoupling hemostasis and thrombosis by blocking activation of FXI also help address unmet needs in cancer-associated thrombosis?
Can’t wait to see the results of the on-going ASTER and MAGNOLIA trials

RCT of FXI inhibitor Abelacimab vs Rivaroxaban in AF stopped early due to significantly less bleeding with Abelacimab. Not powered to look at thrombotic events but were 7 on Rivaroxaban and 10 and 11 on the two doses of the FXI inhibitor. Paper in this week's New England Journal of Medicine.

I’m not much of an expert on clotting cascades, but I’m very much in favour of preventing strokes in any way that we can.

A short report in the @bmj.com of a @nejm.org study using a monoclonal antibody to target factor XI in patients with atrial fibrillation.

It sounds promising.

Looks like there’s a new kid on the block…
Abelacimab (MAB targeting FXI)

Fewer bleeding events (Primary EP)
But also higher embolic stroke events.
