It's a shame that people who rely on screen readers will never know what this image says. Please represent everyone, including those who need alt text for images. #AccessibilityMatters

This includes infographics. And if you post infographics here, make sure that you include alt text so that people who rely on screen readers can see what's in your infographic. #AccessibilityMatters
Ensure text is readable in data visualizations and information graphics. Small text is generally harder to read, and should be avoided where possible. Make sure the text is not obstructed by other chart elements, and has sufficient contrast against its background.

It's a shame there's no alt text to go with the cartoon. I'd boost it if people who rely on screen readers could find more than simply the presence of an image. #AccessibilityMatters

What's the point of accessible video appointments for an #RDSP, a savings plan for people with disabilities, if you still have to drive in to sign paperwork within TWO DAYS? 😂 I stood in line for 20 minutes. My #DynamicDisability means I'm paying for it today.

Using all capital letters can slow reading and can confuse screen readers.

🔹 It can look aggressive.
🔹 Use bold or colour instead.

This is the setting that @a11yawareness.bsky.social is referring to. It should be enabled by default*, but the second-best thing is to enable it yourself. Otherwise, people using a screen reader will have no clue as to what your image is of. #AccessibilityMatters

Grounds for being unfollowed include alt text that duplicate the post text without information on what's in the image, and useless single word alt text like "Cat." #AccessibilityMatters
After asking, begging, and haranguing people to use alt text so people who use screen readers can "see" what's in their images, I am now unfollowing people who post images without alt text. If you boost a post that is missing alt text, that poster will be muted, but it ... #AccessibilityMatters

This won't be a permanent unfollow. I'm keeping a list of who I unfollow for not using alt text, and if they start using it, I'll follow them again.

The bottom line is that it's 2026, and it's time for EVERYONE to use alt text, because #AccessibilityMatters.

Not including alt text with images means that this technology has no way to let users know what's in the image. It's why I now mute (or block folks who don't use alt text, and why I will unfollow anyone I follow who won't use alt text. Set this in Settings > Accessibility. #AccessibilityMatters

I realize that you described what's in the image in the post text, but if someone relies on a screen reader, all they know is that there's an image. Please include alt text with your image that describes what's in the image for those who can't see the image. #AccessibilityMatters

To the kitty-centric account that followed me about an hour ago,

You were muted because of your complete lack of alt text on your images. Without alt text, people who use screen readers will never know what your image shows. #AccessibilityMatters

Accessibility is more than physical spaces. It’s also about being understood.
The way we share information can make it easier or harder for someone to access support.

BROKEN: The description of your image may be in your post, but people who rely on screen readers will still wonder what's in your image without alt text. Please stop leaving them behind when you post important information like this. #AccessibilityMatters

On behalf of all the people who rely on screen readers, I ask what storm? Where? Without alt text on your images, people who use screen readers have no clue what your images show. Please include alt text in your images. #AccessibilityMatters

Your statement would reach more people if you included alt text. The text could have been copied either from your graphics creator or from the document with the statement itself, but now all people who use screen readers will see is that there is an image. #AccessibilityMatters
